LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge on Saturday dismissed the bail application of a man suspected of killing Indian death row convict Sarabjit Singh.

Amir Sarfaraz alias Tamba filed the application pleading innocence.

He said he was being framed in a fabricated case with the connivance of prison authorities. Sarfaraz said nothing had been recovered from him during the investigation.

He said he was incarcerated in block 7/B at Kot Lakhpat Central Jail when Singh had been attacked. Sarfaraz said the block was located at a distance from block 7/E.

He said there was no way for suspects being held in one block to meet those held in another block.

The suspect said he had been jailed for over two years and progress on his trial was non-existent.

Sarfaraz urged the court to accept his application and grant him bail.

The judge dismissed the application saying that the suspect had been nominated in the FIR regarding Singh’s killing and his role in the episode was well-documented. He noted that the incident had taken place in broad daylight in the presence of prison authorities.

The judge said sufficient incriminating evidence was available to connect the suspect with the offence.

Suspects Mudassir Munir and Amir Sarfaraz had been nominated in an FIR of the incident that was moved by Kot Lakhpat Central Jail Superintendent Ghulam Sarwar.

The men had allegedly killed Singh in April, 2013 by attacking the deceased with bricks.
