In the red: Non-bailable warrants issued for Musharraf

If Musharraf fails to appear in person, the police will bring him to court on July 24, court states

ISLAMABAD:

A district and sessions court on Friday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf. He dismissed his exemption plea in connection with the murder of Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Rasheed Ghazi.

District and Sessions Judge Kamran Busharat Mufti rejected Musharraf’s plea to be exempted from appearing in court. The court also stated that if Musharraf fails to appear in person, the police will bring him to court on July 24.

Earlier on Thursday, the court reserved its verdict on Musharraf’s exemption application in the murder case.

The judge reserved the verdict after both parties concluded their arguments on the application seeking exemption from appearance in the case.

Musharraf’s counsel Malik Tahir Mehmood said the court was authorised to exempt any suspect from appearance. In his application filed under several sections of the Criminal Procedure Code, Mehmood said it was up to the court to grant exemption in the case.
