Remanded: Four town municipal officers sent to jail custody

The Sujawal former TMO, Mumtaz Ali Zardari, was detained by the anti-corruption agency on charges of misusing funds

An accountability court remanded on Friday four officials of the town municipal authorities of Sehwan and Sujawal districts on corruption charges.


Sehwan town municipal officer (TMO) Rehmatullah Memon, former TMO Zahoor Ahmed Shahani and town municipal engineer Idrees Memon were arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on June 18 for alleged embezzlement of funds worth Rs120 million allocated for development schemes.


The Sujawal former TMO, Mumtaz Ali Zardari, was detained by the anti-corruption agency on charges of misusing public funds worth Rs100 million.


According to the prosecution, the suspects drew funds illegally through cheques issued in the name of fake contractors, falsified accounts, fake purchases and ghost employees' salaries.Approving the prosecution plea, the judge, Abdul Latif Golo, handed them over to NAB on a two-week physical remand and asked the investigators to bring a progress report on the next hearing on July 3.
