The Pakistan Poultry Association has assured the government that there will be unhindered expansion in poultry production to bridge the protein gap and the industry will be instrumental in restricting the price increase of other meats.
The remarks came after the withdrawal of proposed 5% sales tax on poultry feed, which the industry and other stakeholders have welcomed.
This and an additional 2% to be charged on poultry feed and its ingredients would have increased the cost of chicken by Rs18 per kg, according to farmers, the association said in a press release. The farmers, who cannot pass additional cost on to consumers and whose produce prices are governed by demand and supply, have been saved of the anxiety whether they would be able to recover the additional cost from market prices or not, the release said.
