Police constable gunned down in Bannu

Javed was on his way to work when armed assailants opened fire at him

BANNU: A police constable was killed on Tuesday when armed assailants opened fire at him in the main Saddar area of Bannu district.

Officials confirmed the death and told The Express Tribune that Police constable Javed was on his way to work when a few motorcyclists opened fire at him.

A  police official said the incident took place near Sheri Kala, adding that this was one of the many incidents in which police officials were being gunned down by militants.

Shortly after the attack the area was cordoned off by police.

"The area has been cordoned off and we have narrowed down on the culprits involved in such incidents," a security official from the area said.

Earlier, a Frontier Constabulary official guarding the house of former Chief Justice Peshawar High Court was also gunned down in a similar targeted attack.

Earlier last week, a deputy superintendent of Sindh police was gunned down in a targeted attack in Karachi. Three DSP-ranked officers have been killed in the port city in the past 40 days.
