FAISALABAD: Four people, including three children, received burns when electric wires collapsed on them during jubilation firing at a wedding near Rodala police station on Monday.

Police spokesman Muhammad Ramazan told The Express Tribune that some guests at Javaid Iqbal’s wedding in Chak 355-GB fired shots after dinner.

He said some bullets hit the 11-KV wires which fell from their support.

He said four-year-old Muhammad Ahmad, seven-year-old Muhammad Amin, seven-year-old Qamar Abbas and 26-year-old Asghar Butt were burnt in the accident.

He said they were rushed to Jaranwala THQ hospital. Muhammad Ahmad and Muhammad Amin were later referred to Allied Hospital due to their critical condition.

Arshad Mehmood, a guest at the wedding, said six friends of the groom had started jubilation firing. He said some people urged the groom to stop his friends but their warnings were ignored. Mehmood said some of the men were inebriated.  The Rodala Road SHO said police had taken the groom and some of his friends in custody. He said raids were being conducted to arrest the remaining. He said police had not registered an FIR because a formal complaint had not been moved.
