Law and justice: Over Rs1billion outlined for 32 projects

More than Rs151 million set aside for six new schemes

PESHAWAR: Just over Rs1 billion was allocated for projects related to law and justice, with Rs151.7 million of the total being utilised for six new schemes.

The government plans to complete the feasibility study and master plan for the construction of model anti-terrorism courts. Automation of courts in selected districts of K-P, contraction of courts in DI Khan, building the judicial complex in Manshera and the establishment of mobile courts were taken into consideration when deciding the budget.

“The government has enacted the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and seven courts [have] been set up for this purpose in as many divisions,” read the budget document. It read that 10 more courts would be established in the next fiscal year. It was stated the main objective of establishing consumer courts was to protect their rights and eliminate the sale of substandard products. The legislation also outlined punishments for those institutions found guilty of failing to provide services to consumers.

Under foreign assistance, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) would provide over Rs656 million to strengthen the rule of law in the Malakand Division.
