GILGIT:

The Gilgit-Baltistan Bar Council has blasted India’s foreign ministry for its opposition to the election process in Gilgit-Baltistan and staking a claim to the territory.

“We condemn the Indian claim that Pakistan has illegally occupied Gilgit-Baltistan,” advocate Shehbaz Khan, Vice Chairman of the Bar Council, told The Express Tribune on Saturday.

“The people of G-B voluntarily and with their free will joined Pakistan after independence.”

The Indian ministry of external affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup’s claims came days before the ruling PML-N won the legislative assembly elections.

Advocate Khan reminded the Indians that G-B was never historically a part of India or even the region of Kashmir.

Shehbaz Khan Advocate | 8 years ago | Reply No doubt..the Maharaja Kashmir invaded GB and made it part of State of J & K forcibly in 1865 and governed the area under the famously known Dogra Raj till 31 October, 1947 and the brave people of GB got liberated their homeland on 1st November 1947 as a result of 100% popular local revolution, just like other cases of liberation movements against the " foreign occupation" all over the world. The Indian Subcontinent, which was made part of United Kingdom by the Britishers in 1858, by force, and kept under its clutches till liberation on 15th August 1947 when the British Raj came to end as a result of popular Indian people liberation struggle. Thus, now..can any one claim over India that it is integral part of United Kingdom ??? If not then: how India claims over GB putting its foot in the shoe of Mahraja Kashmir, whose accession with India on 26th October 1947 was totally rejected by the people of GB and got liberated their home land from the illegal occupation of Maharaja Kashmir on 1st November, 1947???
Indian Observer | 8 years ago | Reply The state of JK and GB was a part of the territory owned and administered by Maharaja Hari Singh, so there is no question of the people here. Why is GB not even having a normal status in Pakistan, forget special status. The whole of erstwhile Jammu, Kashmir , Ladakh and GB acceded to India, so the bar council should know better because they are lawyers , not country hicks.
