The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday issued arrest warrants for the general manager Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), chief engineer and distributor in-charge for non-compliance with court orders and curtailing the flow of natural gas to the domestic, industrial and commercial consumers.
The bench comprised Justice Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah and Justice Dost Mohammad Khan.
Tariq Khan, a resident of Peshawar had filed a writ petition in the high court against the SNGPL, claiming that officials of the company were illegally transferring gas meters of the closed factories in Jamrud Industrial Estate and installing them in other running factories.
The petitioner also stated that the company carried out its practices despite the high court’s orders that stopped it from causing any gas outages and reducing gas pressure both to the commercial and domestic consumers.
Mauzzam Butt, the petitioner’s lawyer, also submitted before the court that SNGPL officials are involved in corruption and malpractice through various ways and that the court should direct the FIA to investigate the matter.
On December 7, the PHC division bench headed by Chief Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan upheld the plea of 28 petitioners who said that the gas consumers of K-P had the first right over gas produced in the province and directed SNGPL to ensure uninterrupted supply of gas to the consumers of the province from the well-heads situated in K-P.
