KARACHI: Rangers on Friday evening briefly detained a constable reportedly attached with the Mominabad Police Station in Orangi Town, Karachi.

According to initial details, Rangers said they had tracked police constable Jan Muhammad for links with gangsters. They showed up at the police station to detain him.

Sources in the police said Rangers personnel misbehaved with them and also resorted to indiscriminate fire; however, no casualty was reported. They then took the constable away with them.

As the incident escalated, senior officials of both, police and Rangers, reached the station to sort out the issue.

Zone West DIG Feroz Shah told The Express Tribune that they were currently coordinating with the Rangers.

The constable, however, was released nearly five hours later.

However, his release only came after policemen of Orangi Division including all DSPs and SHOs threatened to stop working.

Superior police officials said that an inquiry had been launched into the incident.
