World Food Programme to spend $535m to assist 8 million people in Pakistan

The programme helps to address nutrition and education issues in the country

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) will be providing $535 million in assistance to eight million people in the disaster-prone areas of Pakistan, Radio Pakistan reported.

A WFP official, while speaking to a local news agency, informed that the programme would help to address issues pertaining to nutrition and education across the country.

“With the help of donors and government of Pakistan, WFP will be achieving the set targets," he further added.

Earlier in April, The World Food Programme handed over a relief goods storage facility, worth $25 million to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority at a ceremony in Hyderabad.

Named the ‘Humanitarian Response Facility’ (HRF), the 9.1-acre structure, comprises four warehouses and an open space, can stock 13,000 metric tons of food, medicines, clothes and other relief materials. It is located in Jamshoro district on the Super Highway.
