HARIPUR: A death row prisoner was hanged in Central Prison Haripur on Thursday morning. A jail official said 42-year-old Gul Ahmed Khan, who hailed from Mardan district, had been convicted for murder. Following his conviction from a local court in Mardan, he tried all options for appeal and filed a mercy petition last week. However, after President Mamnoon Hussain rejected his appeal, a black warrant was issued in his name. Khan was executed at 4:30am in the presence of a judicial magistrate and senior medical officer. This is the second execution at the prison. Earlier, on May 28, Khurrum Malik, a murder convict, was hanged in Haripur jail.
