58 killed in Darfur

Express April 25, 2010

DARFUR: In the western region of Darfur,  at least 58 people were killed and 85 wounded in fighting between Sudan army and Arab nomads.

A tribal chief confirmed the fighting along the sensitive border between Darfur and south Sudan. It is the most serious violence reported since Sudan held elections this month.

They were the first multi-party polls in 24 years, but have been marred by irregularities and alleged fraud, and results have been delayed by days.

Analyst say the violence is likely to raise tensions between north and south.
