It looks like the producers of the Netflix TV show are unwilling to leave any stone unturned while heading to the second season. According to ew.com, former The Walking Dead actor Jon Bernthal has been casted for the role of one of Marvel’s most prized characters, The Punisher for Daredevil Season 2.

The Punisher is a superhero identity adopted by Frank Castle after he starts working as a vigilante in order to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen — also home to another superhero: Daredevil (Matt Murdoch). Unlike Murdoch, The Punisher is willing to go to any extent to accomplish his aims regardless of how lethal the result is.

Jon Bernthal, who shot to fame for his performance as Shane Walsh in the first two seasons of The Walking Dead, has gone on to make several screen appearances most notably in The Wolf of Wall Street, Fury and the soon to release Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.

Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb, shared his excitement at Bernthal’s casting, saying, “Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences.”

“Frank Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same,” he added.

Steven S DeKnight, who served as the show-runner for Daredevil’s debut season, said that he was keen on developing an R-rated TV show based on the character. A movie based on the comic book character was released in 2004 and starred Thomas Jane in the titular role.
