Now who would think that rickshaws might give contemporary clothes designers a run for their money?

Twenty designer-decorated rickshaws were spotted this week in London. Yes, in London.

Rickshaws in the British capital, let alone designer-rickshaws sounds like information with humongous shock value. But these rickshaws were decorated by a charity for a cause.

Elephant Family is the UK'’s biggest funder working for the conservation of endangered Asian elephants.

It carries out fundraising events and has so far held egg hunts and parades for the cause. This year they sent out a fleet of twenty jaw-dropping rickshaws around London. The commuters would pay donations instead of fare. The charity aims to raise £1m to secure elephant habitat in Assam, India.

The radically modest vehicles went gorgeously hip with the likes of famous designers , Zandra Rhodes, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Felder Felder, Piers Atkinson, Alex Echo, Rebecca Campbell, Diane von Furstenberg, Mulberry and Carolina Herrara.

The dull neighborhood of London came to life as Goldie Hawn, a devoted supporter flagged off the project which is in partnership with Selfridges in London.

These rickshaws will be auctioned off by Sotheby's on June 30 where the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles play hosts.
