Unopposed election?: Sherry Rehman submits Senate election papers

The PPP has started lobbying different parliamentary parties in the Sindh Assembly to get Rehman elected unopposed

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) vice- president Sherry Rehman submitted her nomination form at the office of the provincial election commission on Friday to contest the Senate election scheduled on June 18 at the Sindh Assembly. 


The PPP has started lobbying different parliamentary parties in the Sindh Assembly to get Rehman elected unopposed. The seat was left vacant with the resignation of PPP senator Abdul Latif Ansari.


According to the election commission schedule, the scrutiny of nomination papers will start on June 8 and the last date for filing appeals is June 10. The date for the disposal of the appeals is June 12 and candidates can withdraw their nomination forms until June 13, when final list of candidates will be displayed.


Rehman said she would play the role of genuine opposition in the Senate. "I will remind the government of its promises and raise issues of public interest," she said.
