PESHAWAR: NAB Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa arrested a man in the provincial capital on Thursday who had allegedly acquired assets worth Rs600 million illegally from Cantonment Board Peshawar by deceiving it.

According to a press release, Naeem Khan, along with his accomplices, Gohar Zaman and Pir Muhammad Azam, managed to obtain the board’s property situated on Fakhr-e-Alam Road on the basis of fake documentation. Furthermore, Khan also tried to acquire six shops and a house in Saddar by preparing fake documents. Khan had been wanted since September, 2014.

An investigation had also been conducted against him by NAB and an FIR has been registered. A reference has already been filed in an accountability court in Peshawar.

Alleged torture

Meanwhile, a petition filed in an accountability court seeking registration of an FIR against a NAB investigation officer for allegedly torturing a detainee was dismissed by the court.

Gul Khatab’s daughter filed the petition saying her father, a NAB employee arrested for corruption, was being tortured in custody. Khatab is accused of extracting bribes from people using the bureau’s name. Earlier, an accountability court had granted NAB physical custody of Khatab.

On Thursday, the court summoned an investigation officer and directed him to bring Khatab before the court. When brought to court, Khatab insisted he was being tortured by NAB. However, a medical examination revealed torture marks were self-inflicted.

As a result, the court dismissed the petition.
