Pakistan capable of giving 'befitting' reply to Indian aggression: Army chief

Army chief says countrymen need not worry about provocative Indian statements

ISLAMABAD: Army chief General Raheel Sharif on Thursday said the country is capable of responding to all forms of aggression from India, Express News reported.

“We know how to respond befittingly to any aggression from India,” the army chief said, adding that there is no need to worry about anything that India says.

Talking to journalists after the joint session of Parliament, the army chief said the law and order situation of the country would continue to improve. The statement comes a day after the army chief said Kashmir and Pakistan are inseparable.

On Wednesday, the army chief described the festering dispute over the Himalayan region as an ‘unfinished agenda’ of the 1947 partition in a strong rejoinder to a flurry of provocative statements emanating from India.

“While we wish peace and stability in the region, we want Kashmir’s just resolution in light of the UN resolutions and as per the aspirations of the Kashmiris to bring lasting peace in the region,” Gen Raheel said in a speech at the National Defence University in Islamabad.

His statement came against the backdrop of rising tensions between the two nuclear-armed arch-nemeses as a result of the recent controversial statements by Indian cabinet ministers and officials.

The public admission by Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar that New Delhi would ‘neutralise terrorists through terrorists’ has particularly prompted strong reaction from Islamabad. The army chief also joined civilian leaders to hit back at India saying that they would not allow ‘proxies’ by other countries to destabilise Pakistan.

“While our enemies are supporting terrorism to stoke sub-conventional conflicts and destabilise our country, we are fully determined and capable of defeating their nefarious designs,” he was quoted as saying by the military’s media wing, the ISPR.

AJK was won in a war during 48; in 65 Ferozpur railway station and Khaim Karan were conquered by Pakistan. The Indian general,s dream of having victory toast in Lahore was befittingly tarnished by a brave army. You Indian were never taught history correctly. East Pakistan was a different story the War was not won by Indian but by brave East Pakistanis against a corrupt and incompetent government where as the Indian army manipulated the situation as these cowards could not dare to cross into West Pakistan. If you are attacked by 4 people of your size and you run home instead of ending up in morgue or hospital you will still be a victor. A small country with small resources and armed forces will always be a victor if it survives a war against a 6 times bigger enemy. Why all people who judge Pakistans war efforts forget this vital aspect.

That is all what they can do while millions of their people in both countries live in poverty and will keep on living in poverty. Those full mouths will keep on fighting with the mouth while disregarding the poor. Can you imagine the amount of money that is spent on weapons of destruction? If only the very same money is spent for education and health services, both the countries will eradicate poverty in the next 30 years. Will that dream be ever realised? No! Thirty years down the line we will still be fighting poverty and the rhetoric will still be the same. As long as the people in high positions live in their comfort zones, the poor will remain poor and the rich will keep on trampling on the poor. Good luck to Pakistan and India.

When the Maharajah signed instrument of accession, Indian army got involved and started pushing Pakistan back. If Nehru had not foolishly gone to UN, Indian army would have reclaimed Kashmir. You call that victory? In 1965 Pakistan attacked and despite the advantage of surprise, Ondia had captured far more Pakistani territory than the reverse. You call that victory? In Kargill your COAS was so scared, he did not even dare to take back the dead soldiers because he was busy denying Pakistani army was involved. Eventually Pakistan announced unilateral ceasefire. You call that victory? And finally you seem to have forgotten Siachen.

I remember after 26/11 when India had most reason to take revenge and conduct surgical strikes in Pakistan as it fools its public, it didn't have the nerve to do so. Just recently they also said the same for Kashmir and the next day militants killed 4 of their soldiers.

Every institution, every select member group that India enters which has a veto to ban others from entering, would get out of bounds for pakistan. The nuclear suppliers group (nsg), that india is expected to enter by the next year or 2, would mean the end of NSG for pakistan. Is pakistan doing something about that? China would keep bailing Pakistan out till the time it feels Pakistan can destabilize India. If the gap between India & pakistan widens to a point where pakistan's ability to hurt India is extremely restricted, the Chinese would absolutely pull the plug on Pakistan.

India is way ahead of Pakistan, 4:1 in army, 6:1 in air force and 8:1 in navy. Remember 71 war where just 5 Indian warships destroyed 1/3 rd of Pakistani Navy. That's a famous incident world over. Food for thought | 8 years ago | Reply I guess the general forgot a few historic events which most of this newspaper's avid Indian fan base would only be too happy to point, starting with 71' Bangladesh war of Independence in which over 90000 prisoners of war surrendered and were later captured. I am not even going to mention the other ones but I would be more than happy to mention the Pakistan army's last and greatest adventure - Kargil war - which ended with the Pakistan army making a retreat after losing men, territory and international reputation. You just cannot put a positive spin on such events and now the latest General has the nerve to make such statements. I guess somethings never change in Pakistan.

Pakistan had more severe temperatures but no heat related death. This speaks volume about the level of poverty in India, where the progress is limited to few cities and to riches only.
