Textile sector: Losses amount to million dollars per day
Supply of gas to textile industries in Faisalabad remained suspended for five days.
FAISALABAD:
The supply of gas to textile industries in Faisalabad has remained suspended for the past five days. SNGPL had issued a notice for a three-day gas outage earlier last week and in accordance with the notice, the industry had not received gas on December 9-11. SNGPL’s decision to curtail the supply of gas to industries until further notice has meant that the textile industry has now not received natural gas for five days. Industrialists have said that their losses mounted to $3 million in three days, representing a loss of a million dollars per day to the textile industry. So far the industry has only been operational for five days this month.
Industrialists added that they will protest the curtailment of gas supply following Ashura. They have demanded that the government stick to the Economic Coordination Committee’s decision to have gas outages for two days a week.
