LAHORE:

Lahore High Court summoned the general manager of Brothers Sugar Mills in court on June 5 to ask why the mill had not paid the full price of sugarcane despite court orders. The court issued the order on a contempt of court petition by a farmer.

On Wednesday, his counsel said the mill owed his client Rs2.5 million which they had not yet paid despite court orders. He said on May 6, the court had directed the mill’s officials to pay the farmer the amount it owed him for sugarcane. He said a government official had told the court then that all farmers would be paid the price of sugarcane before the end of May 2015. He said it was past May but the amount had still not been paid. He said Brothers Sugar Mill should be tried for contempt of court. He also sought directions for the mill to pay the farmer. The court summoned the Brothers Sugar Mills GM and issued notices to the mill’s managing director, the Punjab sugarcane commissioner, the Kasur DCO and the Chunia AC.
