ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said on Tuesday that PTI was not involved in rigging the recent elections and is ready for re-elections.

According to the PTI chief, he has never witnessed such grass root democracy as was demonstrated during the local body elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa as thousands of people came forward to participate in the elections.

"Around 84,000 people participated in the elections, 41,000 got elected while about 7,000 women got elected in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa," Imran said.

"I have never seen such a display of democratic process take place in Pakistan," he added.

Imran Khan further added that after a conversation with K-P Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, they have unanimously agreed to participate in re-elections, however this time under the Army's supervision as ECP and Najam Sethi failed to administer free and fair elections.

"I can guarantee that if ECP orders re-polling, PTI will win once again and with a higher number of votes this time," Khan said.

PTI chief expressed disappointment as he informed the media that the voters did not have enough time or proper guidance to cast seven votes at the polling stations.

On May 30, PTI had streaked ahead of its political rivals in K-P local government elections against the backdrop of violent clashes, mismanagement and inadequate security measures. Its opponents also raised a red flag over the fairness of the poll, accusing the ruling party in K-P of rigging.

Violence and other murky events of the day contributed to the delay in results. Election officials were hesitant to step out of the polling stations, fearing that they might be attacked and the polling material snatched.

At least 11 people were killed and around 62 injured – two women and 60 men, including five policemen – across K-P in election-related scuffles and shooting incidents.

Dr. Asad Sadick, Germany | 9 years ago | Reply I wonder why the complaining parties are not agreeing to reelections as suggested by IK. Obviously because they will losr further. What are they scared off if the reelection takes place under Army supervision? Because they are liars.

Ebaad | 9 years ago | Reply @Critical Analyst: Off course PTI needs to gain further ground, agreed. But the propaganda that PTI is losing ground is far from truth. KPK people electing the same party consecutively is unprecedented, isn't it?

If IK's attitude does not allow alliances, it's going to influence the number of seats he wins. This is election strategy. Let's say if all parties ally against PTI in whole of Pakistan for the next election and PTI wins 30 odd seats again will it matter that all had ganged up? What matters is how much seats PTI has won and can it bring to fruition IK's ambition to PMship or not. PTI is bound to find electoral strategies by its competitors. This cannot be used as an excuse though.

Ebaad | 9 years ago | Reply @Critical Analyst: Corrections: In 2013 general elections, PTI won 33 out of 99 seats (33%) from the provincial assembly (It won two additional seats; PK-86 and PK-68 in by-elections) and 15 out of 35 seats (42%) out of the national assembly seats (It won two more seats; NA-25 and NA-27 in the by-elections). In the local body elections, till my last updates, PTI won 277 district seats out of 841 results announced (33%). Now please consider that in 2013 elections PTI was competing against ANP, JUI-F and PPP as separate parties. In the local body elections, these three parties (and in some cases, even PML-N) were competing together against PTI throughout the province, which means if they had such an alliance in the 2013 elections, they surly would have won majority of the seats then. Now consider these facts and the corrected analysis and decide who gained and who lost.

azmat | 9 years ago | Reply All the thugs have joined forces to bail out the biggest thug from the clutches of Judicial commission for rigging in 2013 election. That is their entire focus. PPP, ANP and JUI(F) who had the incumbents govts in 2008 and 2002 elections in KPK made an alliance through seat adjustments and still could not beat PTI. Be it liberal or conservative or centrists, all taken to the cleaners. Although, I feel that Swabi and Swat should have shown better results where ANP has managed to make some lost ground

Critical Analyst | 9 years ago | Reply @Kamran Akmal: We're talking about NWFP Provincial (35/99 i.e. 35%) and National (17/35 i.e. 49%) Assembly seats for 2013 GE. And we're talking about percentage of seats (<30% in LG polls).

raider | 9 years ago | Reply @Critical Analyst: you are still counting votes and percentages, what was subject matter of elections going missed that merit to be addressed, i don't negate that rigged election is not the case in kpk, imran khan never interferes in police department, it might be possible that some rogue elements had manipulated a faction of police for their political ends, you can not develop 100% fair system, there is always loopholes and leakage in the system which is unavoidable, this hype now should likely to be diminished after imran s announcement of re-election if there have had any rigged votes found enough to affect result in overall, fazal-o-rehman with zero performance in any field of life except manipulating religion believes for political ends clamoring lies seems at full swing, i am pretty sure this time pti would sweep and parties of status quo will enjoy peanut, thanks

poignant | 9 years ago | Reply Incredible!! That's the way to shut your critics mouth. All the rat parties had gotten together against PTI in this elections, and were trounced utterly. Even the media got onto the bandwagon in denouncing the achievement, instead of appreciating it. Its a very tall order for fixing the mess that has been created by these status quo parties, but in Imran we have a glimmer of hope now.

Critical Analyst | 9 years ago | Reply Less than 30% of seats won by PTI. Less percentage than what they won in 2013 general elections. This time the CM was from their party. The ROs were from their government departments. Their allies are calling foul play by the CM and IK. With all this and the brilliant performance of the last two years, still they won less percentage of seats than in 2013. Who to blame now? Options are running thin. With most nazim slots to go their way, without performance the next election will be an even uphill task to win. And this is in NWFP, their stronghold!

He is the only political leader who has devolved power to smaller councils. He is the only political leader in Pakistan who has made the Police force independent from political interference. He is the only leader in Pakistan who is hated by all other political parties and their leaders and he is the only leader who will be stopped from ever coming to power through legal means. I believe in you IK, your party for all its faults is still better than the rest! Keep up the good work as it causes pain to the dishonest.

All other parties think local body elections in KP were rigged let's have fresh elections in whole country under army's supervision. We can also use electronic voting to erase any chance of election day rigging.

All the institutions in Pakistan, including the media, are CORRUPT to the core and are trying to do whatever they can to fail the Imran juggernaut. But he will steamroll all of YOU, including our pathteic press, which is doing unimaginable damage to our nation.

Layman | 9 years ago | Reply Imran Khan is a cancer for status co, that status co is every where, be it Media, Bureaucracy, Judiciary, politicians or establishment, they are trying there utmost to fail him so that no one in future dares to challenge them again..no one talks about that how ANP and other parties who didn't dared to come out of there bullet proof vehicles in general elections after there own 5 years of government were doing election campaign freely and that in a province who was badly effected with terrorism, the credit goes to one and only 2 yeras old PTI government and KPK police..
