In the survey, carried out by Gallup Pakistan, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the country were asked the following question: In your opinion has the divorce rate recently increased, decreased or remained the same?
Fifty-five per cent said that the rate of divorce had increased, while 33 per cent held the view that it had remained unchanged, with 11 per cent stating that it had decreased. One per cent gave no response.
In a follow up question the participants were asked the following question: In your opinion mostly who is to be blamed for the divorce?
Fifteen per cent blamed men, 22 per cent blamed women and 62 per cent held both genders equally responsible. One per cent gave no response.
The survey was carried out among a sample of 2,599 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during November 2010.
