KARACHI:

The business community, politicians and philanthropists lauded the Health and Nutrition Development Society (Hands) for its 35 years as a leading non-profit organisation in Pakistan.

During an annual dinner, organised by the NGO at Pearl Continental hotel on Saturday night, the chairperson of the organisation, Prof A Gaffar Billoo, said that Hands has been transforming lives for over three decades. He said the organisation has been empowering people at the grassroots levels by strengthening their sense of self-help, self-reliance and sense of ownership, without any kind of discrimination in terms of gender, ethnicity or religion.

Dr Sheikh Tanveer Ahmed, the chief executive of the organisation, said that Hands has served as a catalyst in promoting economic growth, human rights and social progress in Pakistani society. "Hands delivers assistance across the country, including education, health and access to safe water, shelter, food security and the elimination of gender disparity at the community level.”
