Kidnapped: Police told to expedite efforts to recover Christian missionary

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the Karachi crime branch deputy superintendent to locate the whereabouts of a Christian man, who was allegedly kidnapped from Jauhar Chowk in 2012.

A division bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, also summoned the investigation officer of the case to show what progress was made in the case so far. Younus Sadiq had approached the SHC, seeking the recovery of his son, Issac Samson.

The petitioner alleged that his 25-year-old son and his 40-year-old colleague, Indryas Javed, were employees of the Good Samaritan Hospital, run by a Korean NGO in Orangi Town No. 16. The incident reportedly took place on February 29, 2012 at Jauhar Chowk near Gulshan-i-Bihar, when the two were on their way to the hospital.

"Some Pashtu-speaking people kidnapped Simon and Javed while they were going to the hospital and took them away in a truck," Sadiq told the judges, adding that Indryas managed to jump off the truck. The family had registered a kidnapping case at the Pakistan Bazaar police station immediately after the incident but no progress has been made in the investigations so far.

During Friday's proceedings, DSP Raja Arshad Hayat from the Karachi Crime Branch-I and Pakistan Bazaar SHO filed their comments in the court. DSP Hayat said he was assigned the case on May 27 and was trying his best to locate the missing person.
