LAHORE: The annual thesis show of the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) kicked off at the Beaconhouse National University’s (BNU) Tarogil Campus on Friday. The show features theses of 70 graduating students.

Students of bachelors of design in fashion and fibre studies, bachelors of design in jewellery and accessory design, bachelors of design in textile and fibre studies, the visual arts BFA, the visual communication design BFA and the art and design studies MA showcased their work on the opening day.

Vice Chancellor Shahid Hafiz Kardar, SVAD Dean Rashid Rana, and faculty members including Professor Salima Hashmi, Professor Naazish Ataullah and Professor Sajjad Kausar attended the show.

The thesis exhibition features works of the 9th batch of undergraduates of the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design.

Rana said, “Our ethos and instruction is designed in such a way that it allows for fluidity between disciplines and various methods of inquiry from the beginning.” He said the academic training offered to the students enabled them to embark on a personalised path of exploration and offer something meaningful to the world. “We cherish the diversity of thought and practice which makes BNU a truly unique institution in South Asia,” he said.

The dean said not only was the exhibition a springboard for young practitioners, but also offered a moment for introspection.

He said the faculty hoped that the graduating students would continue to engage with contemporary challenges beyond university and, “carry forward our commitment to excellence in the fields of art and design,” he said.

The degree show will continue till June 3 and will be open to public daily from 10am to 7pm.
