PESHAWAR: A well-known physician of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Saeedul Majeed, passed away at the age of 80 on Tuesday. He was buried in his family graveyard on University Road in Peshawar and is survived by a son and a daughter. Majeed had earlier served as president of TB Association in the province. During his term, he consistently worked towards eliminating the disease and raising awareness about how it could be prevented. He had also served as chief executive of Lady Reading Hospital. Majeed was awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz on August 14, 2003 by General (retd) Pervez Musharraf for his commitment to promote community welfare. Two years before his death, Majeed was running a hospital in Sikandar Pura area of the provincial capital which was established by his father, Dr Abdul Majeed. A large number of patients from across the province would travel to the facility for treatment. However, after he fell ill, the hospital was closed down.
