KARACHI:

For a country that shouts, cries and bleeds cricket, Friday, May 22 would be remembered as one of the most hopeful days in its history. Where our players showed their sportsman spirit in the ground, a number of Pakistani celebrities joined the spectators.

Actor Adnan Siddiqui, the captain of the Showbiz cricket team, couldn’t make it to the opening ceremony but will be joining the team on May 24. However, he was there in spirit. “After six years of waiting and hoping, Zimbabwe has kickstarted what I hope will be a long tradition of international cricket in Pakistan. As an avid cricket fan, I am delighted that international cricket has been revived in this cricket-mad nation.” Here is what other celebrities present in the stadium had to say about the glorious moment.

“What a match it was ! I must say the whole ceremony was very well-organised, great sport from both sides . Pampering our cricket is one great initiative by PCB. It will rebuild Pakistan’s image across the globe and I feel this Zimbabwe series was the best thing that could have happened to Pakistan cricket. Looking forward to the time when ‘Cricket Comes Home’ for life.”

“The joy, the high, the experience is unexplainable. It wasn’t just about performing in front of a crowd of over 30,000 people.  It was about being a part of a moment in history where we stood together and showed the world what we’re made of and who we are. It was about being part of a day that showed our resolve that we would go to any extreme to reclaim the Pakistan we want.

Singer–Actor Ali Zafar

“Super super excited about Pakistan hosting an international team after so long! I’m a cricket lover, like most Pakistanis and really looking forward to this series on our home ground in my hometown, Lahore! I attended the first match and will be there on more matches to support both teams!”

Ayesha Omar

“I had never seen so many people wearing almost the same colour live. It was a memorable experience. I am glad I promoted my upcoming film DMPS with Sikander on such a huge platform.
