Five militants, one official killed in attack on security check post in North Waziristan

Another official was injured in the attack who had to be airlifted to the CMH in Bannu

BANNU: An security official was killed and another was injured when militants attacked a check post in Gharwayee area of Tehsil Datakhel, North Waziristan.

Officials claimed that five militants were also killed when security forces retaliated.

A group of armed militants attacked a check post in Ghurwayee area of Datakhel on Friday, officials in civil administration and security forces said on Friday evening. At the very outset of the attack, a soldier was killed and another was injured.

As personnel of security forces retaliated to the attack, they exchanged fire with militants for nearly half an hour during which five attackers were also killed.

The official killed was identified as Waqas and injured was identified as Lance Naik Shafqat. They were airlifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Bannu.

Over the past two days, over 30 militants were killed and several hide-outs were destroyed as jet fighters pounded targets in Datakhel.
