Selection woes: Punjab tops in officers dropped for promotion

Ratio of officials deferred for upgrade higher than any other province

ISLAMABAD: The ratio of officers belonging to Punjab deferred or superseded in Central Selection Board (CSB) meeting is far higher than the officers dropped for promotion from other smaller provinces, official sources told APP Thursday.

They said that the CSB deferred or superseded officers from all the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), but primarily from Punjab.



The CSB recommended a total of 46 officers of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) for deferment of promotion to grade 20. Out of them thirty-four (66%) officials belonged to Punjab; seven (19%) to Sindh; three (8%) to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP); and one (2%) each to Balochistan and Fata.

Similarly, the CSB gave recommendations of deferment of 23 officers of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) for upgrade to scale 20. Of them, 15 (65.22%) bureaucrats hailed from Punjab; three (13.04%) belonged to Sindh; five (21.74%) to K-P and none from Balochistan, FATA, AJK and G-B.

According to the official record, the CSB recommended supersession of four officers of PSP for promotion to grade 20 with all of them coming from Punjab.

The selection board proposed postponement of promotion of 15 officers of the PSP to grade 21. Eight (53.33%) of them hailed from Punjab; five (33.33%) from Sindh; and one (6.67%) each from K-P and AJK.

Official sources said that the government of PML -N believes in merit for recruitment and promotions of civil servants.
