KARACHI: The Sindh government finally appointed a home minister after this post had lain vacant for the last three years. PPP MPA Suhail Anwar Sial was handed this important portfolio on Thursday. Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan administrated the oath to him. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, his cabinet members, lawmakers, diplomats and bureaucrats.

The portfolio of prisons has also been allotted to Sial. This department was earlier being run by Manzoor Wassan.

Meanwhile, the department of planning and development has been given to Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah. The CM was in-charge of this department for the last seven years.

The CM himself was holding the portfolio of home ministry after the resignation of Manzoor Wassan in 2012.  Even after the May general elections, the incumbent government did not appoint a full-fledged home minister and the CM retained this position along with the charge of more than one dozen departments. The terror attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar and its aftermath compelled the Sindh government to appoint the home minister.

Sial, who is considered one of the PPP leadership’s most trusted lieutenants, belongs to Faridabad village, Taluka Bakrani of Larkana district. He works as coordinator to PPP MNA Faryal Talpur who reportedly played an important role in his appointment as home minister. Sial won the by-election from PS 35 Larkana in April 2014.
