A day after Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar disclosed the arrest of Safoora attackers, army chief General Raheel Sharif has said that noteworthy achievements in operation Zarb-e-Azb have created a space for a decisive surge against terrorists in urban areas.

“War against terrorism and extremism is being fought for future generations," General Raheel said, addressing officers and students of Command and Staff College during a day’s visit to the institute in Quetta on Thursday, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The COAS said the war against militancy cannot be fought and won alone by the security forces - support from the masses is necessary.

Nk | 9 years ago | Reply Could this be the first truly patriotic army general in the history of Pakistan? People like Musharraf gave the Pakistan army such a bad name. Hidden personal agendas and egos behind their actions. All previous army leadership has destroyed Pakistan and set it on the destructive path it's on. Despite not being a fan of the Pakistan army I have to say raheel Sharif deserves all the praise that can be given to him. He has done what is necessary without a craving of power. He has done what is necessary to protect Pakistan. We give out medals to generals for no reason at all. This guy is the first deserving any and all honours that can be given to him. Good job..
