Promotion in civil services not a provincial matter: Nawaz

Premier assures Khursheed Shah the federal govt has no role in the promotion of civil servants

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assured the National Assembly on Tuesday that promotion in civil service is done on the basis of merit and there are no provincial biases.

“Promotion in civil services is not a provincial matter,” the premier said, while addressing the concerns of the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah during the National Assembly session on Tuesday.

The leader of the opposition expressed concern that civil servants in Sindh were not being promoted. However, claiming promotions are not done on the basis of provinces, PM Nawaz clarified, “The federal government has no role in the promotion of civil servants.”

“It is our principle stance to hold up merit,” he added.

Nawaz upheld that certain grade 20 civil servants promoted were dropped because their integrity was doubtful.

"In grade 20 to grade 21 promotions, you should be able to see their integrity and look at their past and their career," he said.

"We are not making this matter controversial, we don't want to bring provincialism into it," he said, adding that many officials from various provinces were considered and dropped.

Further, Nawaz denied being consulted by the Federal Public Service Commission regarding promotions.

“I do not know the chairman of the commission,” he added.

“The government will fix all matters,” he assured, asking Khursheed Shah to not worry over small things.

“If the matter comes to me, I will consult Khursheed Shah.”

Mr . 20 % ( Fawad Hasan Fawad ) has been posted as Additional Secretary in Prime Minister Office. He is openly, happily and shamelessly demanding twenty percent commission from every major foreign company in Pakistan in regards to new contracts. Our strategic relations with China and Gulf can potentially be affected. The chubby gentleman acts like a frontman for administration which might not be the case but perception is developed. Hope you look around yourself very carefully before it is too late and you will be left with nothing except regrets!!

Ahmed | 8 years ago | Reply Yeah, it's a provincial matter. So Shahbaz's servants get all the promotions and same with Zardari in Sindh. The only people that suffer is the public due to the arrogance of our 'public' servants and rampant bribery and embezzlement that goes on in our departments. I didn't like Qadri one bit but he was right when he said both parties have have done a mukmukka!
