Railways: No ‘excessive’ fare for devotees

LAHORE: Lahore High Court stopped Pakistan Railways on Monday from collecting ‘exorbitant fare’ from devotees travelling by trains to participate in the urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.  The Jhoolay Lal Council filed a petition through its president saying that the railways did not operate trains for the devotees visiting the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. He said that they had had to approach courts on the matter each year. The petitioner said this year, railways had offered them passenger trains but were demanding the fare charged for nonstop trains. The court the directed railways authorities to charge regular fare from the devotees and disposed of the petition.
