MULTAN:

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has decided to focus on a door-to-door campaign in PP-196 by-polls and cancelled a public meeting planned for Monday.

National Assembly Member Hamza Shahbaz was scheduled to address the meeting.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Rana Mehmoodul Hassan, the PML-N candidate for PP-196, he was confident that voters would prefer this approach.

“The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has done its best but failed to attract people to its public meeting in Multan,” he said. He said this was why he felt that a door-to-door approach would suit the by-election campaign best.

“I’d rather hear concerns and complaints of the voters face-to-face,” he said.

Talking to The Express Tribune, PTI district president Aijaz Ahmed Janjua said this showed that the PML-N was afraid of a low turnout at Hamza Shahbaz’s address.

He said the PTI had held a successful pubic meeting organised on a short notice.

“We were unable to put up banners and ads. Still thousands of people participated in the meeting despite the harsh weather,” he said.

He said PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi had borne the costs of the meeting. He said he was optimistic about PTI’s chances in the by-polls.
