The anti-terrorism court trying the disgruntled Pakistan Peoples Party leader, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, is set to hear today (Tuesday) the arguments on three pleas filed by Mirza to transfer his cases to a regular court.
The ATC-I had issued on Monday notices to the prosecution after Mirza, also a former provincial home minister, approached the court against his trial under the anti-terrorism act (ATA). His lawyer, Ashraf Samoo, contended that his client was booked under ATA with mala fide intentions as the cases against him were of political nature. He pleaded the court decide the case as a normal trial and refer it to a regular court.
After reviewing the application, the ATC-I judge directed the counsels representing the state, Muhammad Khan Burero and Mubashir Ali Mirza, to appear before him to argue on the matter. The court will also hear the cases against Mirza, including looting, rioting, attacking police personnel and attempted murder. The prosecution was told at a previous hearing to submit the police files of the cases today.
