The latest set of leaked US diplomatic cables showed that India alleged that there were 43 militant camps in Pakistan, including 22 in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, and that little had been done to permanently shut them down.

The allegation was made during a conversation in June last year between then US National Security Adviser General Jim Jones and Indian Defence Minister AK Antony, according to the cables released by WikiLeaks and published by Britain's Guardian newspaper.

Indian army chief General Deepak Kapoor, who attended the meeting, said that Pakistan had raided the camps following the Mumbai attacks in 2008 but some of them had since resumed operations. Kapoor also told the US delegation that militants continued to infiltrate into Indian-administered Kashmir across the Line of Control and that it would not be possible without "some kind of assistance, and or/degree of support that is institutional", the cable said.

He said India had improved its preparedness on the borders and estimated that about 15 to 20 per cent of those trying to cross the border succeeded. "If we can catch them, why can't the Pakistani military," he asked.

Jones, according to the read-out of the meeting, said he would take up the issue of militant training camps with Islamabad. At one stage during the meeting, he asked the Indian army chief about the prospects of upgrading India-Pakistan military talks to discuss Indian concerns. But the Indian defence minister Antony interjected, saying dialogue with Pakistan was difficult until it had acted against those responsible for the Mumbai attacks.

Pakistan has rejected Indian accusations that it continues to support militants fighting Indian rule in Kashmir and instead sought talks to resolve the long-running dispute over the Himalayan region. It has, however, acknowledged that the Mumbai attacks was plotted and partly launched from its soil and put seven suspects linked to the Laskar-e-Taiba group on trial.

India says it is not satisfied with the pace of the Pakistani investigation. Jones said the worst thing for the region would be another Mumbai-style attack and that "we cannot let the terrorists play us off against each other".

The two sides also discussed Afghanistan, where New Delhi said it had a vital stake and the international operation must succeed "because India cannot imagine for a moment a Taliban takeover of its extended neighbour". India, along with Russia and Iran, supported the Northern Alliance faction during the civil war in Afghanistan is deeply suspicious of any dialogue with the Taliban, which it sees as closely tied to Pakistan.

ABHISHEK | 13 years ago | Reply @Sikandar: Take my Bow man.... and a Bow to ET.. Excellent thoughts.. But the Problem with the democracy is that the People of your thoughts are very few and could not come in power to bring the desired change.. :(...,This thought sadly Doesn't represent the majority today. And the person who will lead the nation or who wants to come in power has to be the face of Majority instead of being the face of truth and logic.. and that's the reason why the leaders of today are bringing shame for their nations.. But you, me and the youth of today have the challenge to make our people SELF GOVERN in true sense so that they could apply their consciousness, to take decision between good and evil, right and wrong .. The dream our leaders saw for our countries, our countrymen Years before our partition(while fighting to remove the stain of slavery from our heads), that our people would be able to bring this self Governance not only in the nation but in their Hearts.. which when i look around both the countries, still seems a Due Dream.. 63 years before we both countries got freedom, but If we look at the Conflicts between two of us today, with the sight of a foreigner, we are a joke in front of the world.. These foreigners deserves the laugh after reading our history that our ancestors instead of being a Hindu or Muslim,Being a Rebel, flooded their Blood, TO BRING TODAYS CONDITIONS??... Here in India If you look at the main Center of Power many of them are sort of Ideal for the general people(our PM, HM, FM etc and many Selfless regional leader like Nitish kumar in BIHAR are emerging as Nation's hope, yet their are many corrupt Politicians here but they are being revealed and are being Prosecuted In front of public, Judiciary is doing a fantastic job here, people are rejecting Corrupt Politicians). As pakistan always Take india as a challenge(whether being a Nuke power or the Balance of Power), she sould also take This as a challenge.. And as it's very Rare to read you or khalid, Mr. Sikandar, i could say that Pakistan has to work very hard.. But In you, In ET( which is trying to bring free journalism even after facing a lot of hidden challenges, which Now i can Clearly Understand after my two edited comments posted here ), and in many people like you I am able to see a Bright ray of hope for Pakistan... An Indian's Best Wishes to a prosperous Pakistan....
Sikandar | 13 years ago | Reply Firstly let me put it straight, What India has to say is to India. But we in Pakistan should realise the terror is not joke and it is in Pakistan, it is infact facing the brunt of the terror and hence it is proved that Terror outfits right here and its easy for them to strike in Pakistan itself there is no doubt about that. Let us not beat around the bush, the truth is truth Pakistanis has a bad habit of simply living on deceit and lies. There is no good in living on false ego, what India does is for India, let us face the truth and accept the reality. Let us not pull in religion for what ever we do, we are supposed to practice religion to ourselves first and then preach but here we are on loggerheads even a novice talk of religion as if he has masters in theology also religion goes hand in hand with science but here we have uneducated mullahs and fakirs etc gives sermon what is good and bad in todays world. Everybody try and live for a better world, here right on Earth first and then we can look forward to the nether world, who knows all said and done but no one knows for real. Hence when we are here make this world a happy place without much ado's.
