Edhi staff embezzles Rs1.7m

KARACHI: Three Edhi Foundation staffers who embezzled Rs1.7 million in charity funds were remanded to judicial custody for seven days on Saturday.

Muhammad Arif, who was in charge of the Edhi Kharadar centre, along with Muhammad Ramzan and Abdul Rauf are charged with embezzling the money that was donated between 2009 and April 2010. A case (FIR No. 272/2010) under sections 406, 408 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code was lodged against them by the Edhi administration at the Kharadar police station.

On Saturday, the IO produced the men in court and requested custody that was granted by Judicial Magistrate, South, Karachi, Sadaruddin Bohyo remanded them to judicial custody and directed the IO to submit a charge sheet at the next date.
