LAHORE:

Provincial Assembly Member Khadija Umer Farooqi on Wednesday submitted an adjournment motion seeking legislation to impose strict punishments on people found involved in incidents of violence against women.

The parliamentarian referred to recent incidents of sexual assault reported from  several districts including Daska, Shah Kot, Okara and Pak Pattan areas.

Farooqi said that the government needed to take steps to curb crimes against women.

She said that there was no law in the province that could be relied upon for controlling incidents of gender-based violence.

Farooqi added that legislation should be done at the earliest to impose strict punishments on people found involved in such crimes.
