A police spokesperson said Safia had taken three children and gone back to living with her parents Rajowal after an argument her husband Haji Mumtaz a few months ago.
He said on Saturday, Mumtaz picked his son seven-year-old-son and two daughters from school at noon on a motorbike and took them to lower Bari Doab Canal near University of Education and pushed them into the canal before he ran away.
The spokesperson said his son swam to safety and called for help. Villagers fished out the body of his daughters.
Police and Rescue 1122 were searching for the second girl when this report was filed. A case has been registered.
