Budget planning: ‘Education, health will get larger allocations’

Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said on Saturday interest of the common man should not be undermined while levying taxes on social sector.


He was chairing a meeting at the Punjab Revenue Authority. He said appropriate funds had been reserved in the budget for health and education. He said 26.25 per cent of the budget had been allocated for the education sector and 11.66 per cent for health.


“More funds will be allocated for these sectors in the upcoming budget,” the minister said. He said several welfare schemes would be announced in the next year’s budget. He said taxes provided funds for development schemes. He said the government would levy tax only on well-off people despite the fact it wanted to raise it revenue.
