Befitting reception: Rs10 million spent on ceremony

The government gave a sum of Rs10 million to the Bahawalpur DCO to arrange a befitting reception for the prime minister and chief minister on the occasion of the inauguration of the first unit at the Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park in the city, The Express Tribune has learnt. 

The Finance Department placed the sum at the disposal of the DCO following a request on this account according to a document a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune.  An Energy Department official said 100MW had been immediately added to the national grid following the unit’s inauguration. He said the generated energy would be distributed among the provinces in accordance with an agreed formula.

A district official told The Express Tribune on the condition of anonymity that dignitaries accompanying the Sharif brothers had been feted by district authorities and Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park officials.

Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park Company CEO Najam Ahmad Shah said the project had been financed by the Bank of Punjab. He said its operations had been outsourced to TBEA. The company was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan after the government unveiled a plan to establish the 10,000-acre park in Bahawalpur.
