The demonstrators demanded that a case be registered against the traders’ association president and raised slogans against traders on the occasion.
A case was filed against the Karim Market president and 50 other suspects following the conclusion of talks between union officials and the police.
ARU president Majid Ghauri said that the union had taken legal recourse to redress their grievances instead of taking the law in its own hands.
He expressed hope that the law enforcement agencies would quickly nab the suspects. Ghauri said they would approach a court for justice if there was no progress on this front.
Following assurances from the police, the protesters called off the demonstration and dispersed peacefully.
