Salman Khan needs no introduction. But when the presiding officer at Jodhpur's trial court questioned his caste, the Bollywood star's reply left the audience stunned.

The B-town megastar, stood before the court and said, 'I'm Indian'. Upon being reminded that Indian is not a caste, he replied, ' I'm Hindu and Muslim'.

This left the court room confused and he was asked to explain himself, to which he said, "My mother is a Hindu and my father is a Muslim."

Salman has been in and out of court rooms dealing with a number of charges. This time he was called in court to record his statements on charges that he used illegal firearms during the infamous black buck (a protected animal) shooting case of 1998.

According to Times of India, the state forest department registered a case against Salman under the Arms Act on the ground that the arms licence that the actor used for alleged poaching of Blackbucks had expired. The actor, therefore, was guilty of using the arms illegally when the shooting incident occurred. The alleged poaching took place at village Kankani near Jodhpur on the intervening night of October 1 and 2 in 1998.

Regarding Salman's hit-and-run case, noted Bollywood director Karan Johar refrained from talking about the legal aspects of the case. However, he did say that the industry stood by Salman's side.

His legal trouble however don't seem to affect his philanthropic efforts. Even during such trying times, the star reached out to help a Kashmiri widow's family during the shoot of his film Bajrangi Bhaijaan and was called a 'messiah' by the old widow.

Salman was joined by his sister in Kashmir for the shoot. She took to Twitter to express her excitement:

However it makes me wonder why this guy is so undecided and this must be a reflection of challenges bring faced in India itself with regards to religious accommodation. A person can practice his religion without accepting anothers and it is absolutely tolerant where I come from.
