MUZAFFARABAD:

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on Wednesday gave electricity consumers a two-month deadline after which unpaid bills will result in disconnections.

Addressing a press conference, Electricity Department Secretary Fayaz Ali Abbasi said arrears against private consumers and government departments are Rs7.5 billion and Rs 4 billion, respectively.

He added that those consumers who cannot pay their bills will be allowed to make the payments in installments. He further said “the department is trying its best to minimise load-shedding and an automatic meter reading system will be introduced in Mirpur, Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot to stop electricity theft”.
