PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court issued a contempt of court notice to the director of the social welfare department on Monday for not formulating a service structure for Lady Health Visitors (LHV) and directed him to submit a written reply. A two-member bench of Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Qalandar Ali Khan directed the director of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa social welfare department to submit his comments before the next date of hearing. Ijaz Anwer, counsel for LHV Nazakat Begum, said on June 26, 2014 the court had ordered the department to frame a service structure within six months for the women working as LHVs. He maintained they are still waiting for a service structure and his client, who has been working as an LHV for the last 35 years, has been facing difficulty in getting a promotion. This forced her to approach the high court.
