KARACHI: Four suspected militants believed to be associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan's (TTP) Swati group were killed in an encounter with the police in Sohrab Goth on Monday evening.

The police, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid on a suspected militant hideout near alAsif Square in Sohrab Goth where they came under attack, claimed Distrct Malir SSP Rao Anwar. He added that after a "fierce gun battle" in which the police returned fire, four alleged militants were killed while another two managed to flee. "Among the militants killed one has been identified as Akbar Badshah, the Karachi commander of the TTP's Swati group," said SSP Anwar. The police also claimed to have recovered a cache of arms and ammunitions from the possession of the alleged militants.

In the aftermath of the shoot-out, the police cordoned off the militancy infested locality and began a search operation to nab other accomplices of the militants, added SSP Anwar.
