SUKKUR:

Ghotki police have yet to recover a reporter who was kidnapped on April 22 near Sarhad town.

Reporter and Sarhad Press Club president Hakim Ali Abro was travelling from Ghotki city to Sarhad with policeman Mir Hassan Shaikh on Wednesday. They were intercepted and kidnapped by armed men. The kidnappers freed Shaikh after covering some distance.

Journalists claimed that the police were not making sincere efforts to recover Abro.

Television Journalists Association, Ghotki, chairperson Allah Warayo Bozdar and general secretary Zahid Kalhoro told The Express Tribune that Ghotki SSP Saqib Sultan Mehmood had asked them to avoid staging protests and demonstrations, as it was hampering the police’s operation against the criminals.

Bozdar further said that the Ghotki SSP has asked the family of the abducted journalist to give them a written undertaking stating that the police will not be held responsible in case any harm came to Abro during the operation. Ghotki DSP Arbab Soomro and Ghotki SSP Mehmood were not available for comments.
