HYDERABAD: The Sindh High Court has summoned the district food officers of Hyderabad, Dadu and Jamshoro to appear before the court on April 24 to explain why wheat farmers are not being supplied gunny sacks. More than two dozen farmers filed a petition, claiming that the food officials are allegedly selling the bags at Rs100 to Rs200 instead of distributing them for free. The Sindh government had announced the distribution of 24 million bags of 100 kilogrammes and 48 million of 50kg from March 1 in the province. The petitioners’ counsels, Shabir Hussein Memon and Mir Naeem Talpur, alleged that political influence and nepotism are at play.
