KARACHI: Rumours were afloat that AR Rahman is interested in casting ‘Nindiya Ke Paar’ fame Uzair Jaswal as the main lead in his new musical; however, much to our disappointment, that is not the case.

The musician-turned-actor whose singing skills came to the limelight after Coke Studio denied being a part of AR Rahman’s musical and clearly said, “It’s not true.”

However, the singer did mention, “I am in talks with people from Bollywood and I’m working on songs with new producers.” He further went on to say that he “might start acting as well.” Although he declined being a part of the Academy Award winners’ musical film but he might be working on musicals otherwise. “If something great comes up, then yeah, I might just take it up,” he said.

Jaswal left us speculating his future projects in B-Town because at the moment everything is confidential and is being kept under wraps.

On AR Rahman’s musical front, in an interview with Hindustan Times last year, he had said that his first production will be a musical and it will be in Hindi. At that point in time, the film was yet to take shape. However, Rahman has started working towards his movie. According to Pinkvilla, the two singers, Rahman and Jaswal, met up recently to discuss the film and the Academy Award winner might give the lead role of his musical to the Pakistani singer. The script is now under works and will be bilingual —  Tamil and Hindi —  and the composer claims, it does not require A listers for the cast.

Apparently, Rahman is keen on starting the film as soon as possible, he met with Telugu filmmaker SS Rajamouli on Wednesday and rumour has it that they might team up soon. However, a source close to the maestro dismissed such claims saying, “It was a simple conversation and there was no discussion about the two working together in near future.”

Whether or not, Jaswal was offered work on AR Rahman’s musical in the future, the big break won’t be attributed as his Bollywood debut because he has already lent his two songs —  ‘Tere Bin’ and ‘Jaanvey’ — in the recently released film Ek Paheeli Leela. But these are not the only movies he has worked in, he was also a part, the controversial indie film Slackistan and the newly released Jalaibee.
