The Minster of State for Information Technology Anusha Rehman on Friday informed the upper house of parliament that the process for biometric verification of mobile SIMs, launched in line with the National Action Plan (NAP) to counter terror activities has been successfully completed.
She said that following direction by the interior ministry, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had initiated the multi-phase verification process.
After expiry of the due date, PTA has blocked all unverified SIMs. However, the minister said, that if people want to restore any SIM, they may do so only after performing requisite biometric verification. The minister also claimed that the majority of blocked SIMs were either used for gray trafficking or remained dormant.
Earlier, Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training, Balighur Rehman informed the house that the government will introduce Vocational Secondary Schools programme.
